Testimonials

Alice Pung

Not only is Bruno a dear friend of mine, but he is one of the best interviewers of authors I have met. Whenever I have been interviewed by Bruno, he has found new angles to my work, asked questions that go to the heart of writing and life, and he always prepares extensively, regardless of how long he has known you. This is a man who loves literature, and who has single-handedly brought the democratisation of literature to the West. Long may his work continue.

"Dear Bruno,
Thank you very warmly for yesterday's interview at Williamstown Literary Festival.  You really put me through my paces and I enjoyed that. As always you were extremely alert and well-prepared, and flexible in the way you were ready both to lead and to follow, so that I felt challenged but also supported, and free to rove wherever my responses to your questions took me.  I was impressed by the beautiful little layout of questions you were holding on your knee, a hand-made jigsaw of ideas that you could survey at a glance rather than having to fluster through stapled pages. It was a pleasure to work with you again.
Sincere thanks and affection.
Helen Garner"

"Bruno Lettieri has a rare ability to get deep conversations going between interesting, serious people in a setting where no one needs to feel constrained or shy". - Helen Garner

Bruno is a living treasure. Love the man. Love his generosity, his passion and spirit. Bruno goes everywhere, and everywhere he goes he creates a sense of community. He is a conduit between author and audience, between the written word and the reader. Being in conversation with Bruno is far more than taking part in a literary event — it is a celebration.

Bruno Lettieri is sharp, funny and warm. His interviews are insightful, informative and full of spontaneity.  Bruno sparkles.  His passion and insight are rare and conversations with him are wonderful.

Bruno Lettieri is the go-to guy for great public conversation. He calls himself a gardener, and in just the way that Seamus Heaney wrote of himself digging with his pen, so Bruno cultivates with his curiosity. He makes friends of entire audiences by asking the questions they want asked, even when they didn’t know it. He beguiles writers into revealing the things in their work that were hidden even from them. He elicits responses that are surprising and expansive, and all who are interviewed by him come away enriched - as do the delighted audiences who have become “Bruno’s tribe.” He is without ego, interested only in the story and then the story beneath the story. I suspect that if Bruno interviewed me every couple of months as I was working on a new project, the result would be vastly improved! I’m always grateful for his insights, for his questing mind, and for his original and perceptive take on the world.

He is a builder of literary communities and a guardian of the sacredness of story.

Being interviewed by Bruno Lettieri is something special for a writer. He really understands our craft and is brilliant at drawing out the journey that takes place between the mind of a writer and the published page. Readers enjoy this too, because Bruno's inimitable style charms its way into the very places where they love to meet authors.

Bruno has a unique combination of warmth with a gift for being incisive and probing. He respects writers enough to challenge them in constructive and sometimes surprising ways.

He is a unique part of literary Australia.

Interviews with Bruno are more like conversations… I feel almost as though we're sitting in the sun outside a café on the island of Kalymnos, sipping ouzo, chatting about anything and everything… Bruno's questions are wide-ranging and thoughtful, so often opening doors which lead in new and interesting directions.  He's something of a 'national treasure'.
